Ōtanewainuku Kiwi Trust Public Meeting – 11th July 2022
We are pleased to extend a warm invitation for you and your friends to join us at our upcoming annual public meeting at 7pm on Monday 11th July at the Tauranga Yacht Club. This is an important opportunity to thank our volunteers, supporters and partner organisations for their support to advance our vision to protect and restore the indigenous ecosystem and biodiversity of Ōtanewainuku.
Our guest speaker will be Jim Lynch – author of the highly successful “Natural Wellington” plan, founder of Zealandia (formerly Karori Sanctuary) and the architect of the fenced ecosanctuary.
Jim will address us on “Natural Wellington to Wainuiomata”
In 1990 Jim wrote a plan for the Wellington Branch of Forest and Bird to “Bring back the birds to Wellington city”. 30 years later and the venture, which led to Zealandia, has been an outstanding success. Now Jim is proposing to do the same thing on a grand scale in the 3,313 ha Wainuiomata catchment in the Remutaka range. Could this be the blueprint to end the prospect of extinction for our unique and vulnerable forest icons?
This presentation is sure to be thought provoking as we at OKT contemplate future possibilities.
