Operations Update June 2022
The trapping team are all busy and quietly going about their work. We have trained and placed a number of new people on lines as sole charge or on a line share basis. The team has the option of going to monthly from fortnightly servicing for June/July and August. This is optional and is an opportunity while some of the predators are less active for our people to recharge.
Thanks to the rabbit team and all those involved for keeping our freezer stocked up. HUGE appreciation also to our egg sponsors, Kaimai Eggs that provide these supplies, free.
A further Trappers Meet, Training and Shared Tips opportunity is being planned with a range of topics. It is also a great opportunity for the development of camaraderie and sharing. Details will be sent directly to the trapping and rabbit prep teams.
The use of the Field Maps App is growing, and ongoing training and development will be available as we run across trappers and at the formal training evenings.
The new Possum traps in the 3A extension area again exceeded expectations and on their second clearance captured a further 9 possums. So 20 out of a possible 24 over four weeks!
We expected this to slow down as the residents are removed. But then one of our new trappers, Mike R, couldn’t help himself and went out again only a week since his last clear, to check his new sentinels again on the same lines 3A59&61, and ANOTHER 7 out of 12 traps yielded possums.
