Kiwi News June 2022
The last OKT chick of the season has left the hatchery and is now residing at Warrenheip. Tumunako & Ruby Red have graduated from Warrenheip to Ōtanewainuku. All transmitter changes have been done. On May 5th Shamus & Will from Adventure Helicopters Tauranga, took David B & Dave E up to see if they could ping our two AWOL kiwi, Le Pew & Adieu. They were both pinged in 1¼ hours. Le Pew was found at the back of McPhail Road, Otawa bush line / farm boundary. Adieu was lifted from the water catchment along Mountain Rd, only to return back there, requiring another rescue the next day. A huge thank you goes out to Shamus & Will the pilots, Ross Green for allowing easy farm access to Le Pew and to Dave E who gave his expert help twice in two days, and of course to David B as well. |
The photo above is was taken during the search for the infamous Le Pew who was intercepted at the very top of OKT, going who knows where, only a couple of days after being released in the middle of the 3A block. Luckily, Dorothy arrived at the Trig on her daily walk, witnessed Steve in action and sent us the photo.
