Workday for Sunday 21 September

Volunteers needed

The Otanewainuku Kiwi Trust is currently carrying out a bait station operation at Otanewainuku. The operation is targeting possums and rats. Animal pests are arguably the greatest threat to the forest ecosystem and the operation is timed to knock down pest numbers in time for the beginning of the next bird breeding season.

The bait station operation last winter had fantastic results with our best ever bird breeding season, plus the bonus of several fledged kokako chicks.

We have a planned workday for this Sunday the 21st of September.

We will be working in groups of 2 or 3 per line. The work will involve some cutting to tidy up and re-marking the lines bait station lines, some fitness is required but generally the work is not too strenuous and we can generally tailor tasks to suit the individual.

The trust provides a BBQ at the end of workday. You also get to spend the day with a great bunch of people in a great environment.
