Kokako dawn chorus

We will let you know when the next event is.

$25 per person.

Join us for a quiet 30 minute hike into Otanewainuku to kōkako territory. Sit and wait quietly to hear the beautiful song of the kōkako at first light. You must be absolutely silent to hear and witness this magnificent bird.

There are no guarantees that the birds will sing for us. Even on a good day a sighting can be no more than a fleeting glance.

Participants must have had breakfast before they arrive. Please bring a torch/head lamp, warm clothes, a raincoat, good footwear, something waterproof (e.g. raincoat) to sit on, snacks and drink while you wait and a camera or bird binoculars if they have them.

Bookings are essential - 10 people maximum per session

Who is this event for: Everyone – however not suitable for young children as you must be able to silent and wait in the dark for extended periods of time.

Come join the Otānewainuku Kiwi Trust Team to recap on the year that has been and our focus for the next 12 months.
With all the amazing work that volunteers have been donating to improving the health of Otānewainuku and lifting its profile through educational talk, OKT kiwi population is increasing. That's good.... isn't it??

Michelle Impey from Kiwis 4 Kiwi will be our guest speaker to talk us through what it takes at a national level.
